Theremug

Theremug by Kyle McDonald.
Make a theremin in Max/MSP using the ground loop.

I use a Griffin iMic when I'm doing this, it's a cheap way to amplify the signal.

I'm glad you're inspired! If you'd like to extend the idea, there's something I've been meaning to try: audio inputs are generally stereo (2 channels), which means if you have two objects that are long and skinny you should be able to approximate a 2d position. If you have more than two channels, you can start working with 3d tracking.
