Monthly: August 2007 |
This month I got a 135mm f/2.8 Q non-AI
lens. It's a pre-AI lens that won't
mount on any Nikon SLR manufactured in
the last two-odd decades -- except for
the D40. It cost me next to nothing, and
while it weighs a ton and takes a
superhuman effort to turn the focus
ring, it's optically capapble, and lets
me get some shots I couldn't get with
either a 50mm f/1.8 or a 55-200VR. Most
of the most interesting bird shots have
come with the addition of a 2x
teleconverter, and these will show up in
the September set.
In comparison with the images from
July, August seems less visually busy;
simpler shapes and occasionally more
interesting angles. Simple is good,
although it makes it much easier to
notice technical flaws and poor choices
in editing, as you can see.
