Red-Tailed Hawk and Lunch (Coot, methinks)
I went out that day at lunch with the intention of staking out the hummingbird nest I'd found the day before, or else pursuing some of the songbirds. I have a strong water bird bias, but I want to eventually cover *all* the birds of the Channel, so I'm trying to pay more attention to the trees.
Problem was, I get out there, and there's nothing in those trees. The area is completely empty. I scan the trees and the ground, looking for motion or familiar (or unfamiliar) bird shapes, but...nothing. Everybody was at a party, or something.
Then, BAM, this guy rushes into view. I've seen him or his ilk a few times before, but never had a chance to photograph 'em as more than a brown blur.
