Actually, this poster was designed by my father, Don Ervin, who worked for George Nelson as his graphic designer in the 1950s and 1960s. In fact, most of the designs attributed to George Nelson were actually created by his employees. Marshmallow sofa? Actually designed by Irving Harper. These designers are starting to get credit for their work...but it's been a long running dispute with Nelson's widow who won't let the designers get credit. Don't get me wrong, according to these Nelson alumni, George was a great boss, very inspiring, original thinker, writer, speaker...but aside from a few of the bubble lamps, he did almost none of the designs.

I think that rings true for many designers and design firms around the world. It's interesting and credit is due.

I agree credit is due, but I would also add that guys of Nelson's skill set don't just show up and take credit. They are all very influential, and they do Shepard the creative process. I agree the designers who are not credited should be, but an important thing to consider is how much influence George, Massimo, Paul Rand and others of this ilk have had on those who have worked for them. Every designer who has been influenced or who influences a design team understands this.

Just wanted to share this perspective, and generally agree with you all that the designers not named should have been. I bet they appreciate and understand the value of having been given a chance, and know that without his vision and leadership, they may not have been credited at all. Irving Harper and Ervin would have had success in their career regardless, but it's important to consider the value of that influence on their voice.
