Lord of the WeedsSammy and I walked along the deer trails as snow fell gently on the flooded plain of the Wedrose nature preserve. We startled three pheasants and spotted a flock of geese but I was unfortunately too slow getting my camera up and focused to get any shots. We did however come across these slow moving weeds where my slow draw worked just fine. This one weed stood out as he seemed to hover over the entire field. The others just waved back and forth in the breeze as if in peaceful worship.

We had a full morning of snow today so Sammy and I drove out to our favorite nature preserve, Wedrose Acres. We walked around in the fresh fallen snow for about an hour, then made our way to the bird feeders near the cabin. Sammy waited patiently in a near by dog pen as I waited patiently seated in the snow on the deck near the feeders. It took awhile for the birds to trust that I meant no harm, but once they realized all I wanted was a few pictures, they started popping in and grabbing some fresh grub. There were at least three male Cardinals which meant there might be a female or two around. One finally flew in and I was lucky enough to get a few shots of her.
Uploaded on Dec 27, 2009 Meet JackJack came to me via the neighbors bushes. I was out cutting the grass one day when my neighbor kids came over and wanted me to see something. We walked over to the another neighbors yard and out from the bushes came this skinny little gray cat. Sammy came over to check him out and the cat ran up to him and started walking between his legs. I called my cat lady friend and she came over to give him a look. She said he was a really nice cat and I decided to take him in temporarily. I had hoped someone was looking for him but as time went on, it became apparent that he was on his own looking for a new home. He had some behavior issues I think due to being an "intact" male but once he was neutered, he improved a great deal. He unfortunately tested positive for Feline Leukemia so that limited his new home options. Long story short, he ended up staying with me. Sammy didn't much care for him until after he was neutered, but since then they have become great friends and love to play with each other. Jack plays like a dog and Sammy couldn't be happier.

Before one can get to the beautiful yellow maples of trail six, one must pass thru the trail I call "Creepies Path". It's hallowed carpet of dead leaves scream with every step and it's spindly bare trees bend and sway overhead as if threatening one to dare pass thru.

One more from the Eureka vs. Mahomet-Seymour football game. It was one of the more emotionally charged games I have seen this year and also one of the muddiest. But I didn't mind as it all just adds to the joy of making pictures.
