A tree silhouetted by an intensifying aurora in North East Scotland.
(taken at Kildrummy Castle car park testing out the conditions before trying to find the castle in the dark!)
There is unlikely to be much auroral activity in the next week or two as the most active sunspots have rotated out of view from Earth. The sunspot that caused the recent geomagnetic storms had a last stand on Friday with an X1.7 solar flare, much larger than the one that caused this but it was not earth directed with only a glancing blow yesterday afternoon (Kp 3)

The last remaining upright stone at Candle Hill stone circle near Insch in Aberdeenshire.
12x3 minute exposures combined with star trail software.
The plan was to find a potential aurora location. This spot looked great on the map but the stone circle was surrounded by rubbish from sly tipping. There was an old fridge (?) and what I think was probably a car at one time. I can't imagine how they got it up here.

Another shot from last night auroral display. Kildrummy castle painted with a head torch. The white balance was adjusted for the sky and then for the foreground and the images merged.
