Time for work: Lesson 6

This is my exercise in aperture and Depth of Field. It's kind of hard to achieve a really shallow, DSLR like DOF with my prosumer Canon G12, so I attempted something more midrange that I knew my camera could handle. I shot in macro mode to emphasize the detail of the toy tractor and make the DOF just a little more shallow. Using mid-range zoom, I lined the truck up with the bottom left ROT intersection. I also used a low-level flash so the truck's rear wouldn't be too dark in the shadow of the morning sun. I took picture after picture of my little scene, but it wasn't until I changed the angle I was shooting and added the fence that I felt I'd captured the shot I was after.

    Settings: f/3.5 ISO 500

Thank you, dwblessed7. I was on my belly in the grass shooting this as the sun rose in my backyard. My biggest suggestion is just to take a ton of pictures until you just feel the right one happen. I think I took about 100 of this one (no exaggeration), adjusting the aperture, the wb, my zoom and the scene. I hope that I'm able to get a better feel for how to set my camera as we continue to take more pictures for class. It was so cold lol.
