Honey Bee Macro

I've always been fascinated with insect macros - it's tough to get a decent macro, with the entire insect in focus. Most of the times you end up with the focus on one part - the leg, or something shiny! Took me sometime, to get this one right!

      WOW!! AMAZING.

How did you get the bee to be so cooperative??

Can you tell me which camera you have used?

There was this dying bee, I had noticed in the pathway, was about to be attacked by ants, I moved it, but realized, it was pretty much immobile. by the time I had placed it on a white paper, it's time was almost up. So, I got a very still and co-operative bee!

It's a Canon SX10, hand held & in super-macro mode, spot metering, iso80 - the best I could do. no special lights used (outdoors with good ambient light) - just a bit of post processing done to clean up the paper texture of the background and cleaning up the dust on the bee's body.

I have this same image at RGBstock - the free stock image resource.

      Fabulous details and lighting!

      How was it lit ?

    13. wildxplorer (40 months ago | reply)

Not much really, I moved it to a spot with good ambient lighting, in a shade but with some multiple reflections to get light in more than one angle. dint have the luxury of white boards to be used as reflectors. dint want to use flash, as it would probably have washed out.
