White Bellied Sea EagleA White Bellied Sea Eagle returns with a large fish. The eagle had to go through quite a bit, dodging kites and crows, before it could settle down!

Shikra
The Shikra is a small bird of prey, a widespread resident breeder throughout south Asia, especially India. The Image below was taken at Agumbe (From the archives). I found contrasting lighting conditions - @ Agumbe the thick woods made it pretty dark, while the Image above - in a Casurina grove - had an abundance of sunlight and resulted in blown highlights!

On the trail: Rhumbak
The old world, unspoiled, and probably an oft photographed and documented village, Rhumbak, set in the heart of the Hemis National Park. These locales are home to the elusive Snow Leopard. Late in the evening a few from our camp saw a Snow Leopard in the higher reaches of Stok Kangri, unfortunately they happened to be the ones without the camera!

The silence was meditative, almost surreal. A quiet evening at our camp just beyond the village, Rhumbak. The larks almost forgot that I was within a few feet of them. Uploaded on Oct 28, 2009 |
