Argus C3 Matchmatic

Argus C3 Matchmatic by John Kratz.
A very popular collectible made even more popular by its appearance in the 2nd Harry Potter movie.
This is just a cool camera, from its impressive dials and gears, to its nifty two-tone skin and bright chrome trim. This example is shown topped with the clip-on selenium meter.

Because of its shape (and weight), the Argus C3 is affectionately known as "The Brick".

Made from 1958-66.

I saw this camera or one very much like it about a year ago but didn't buy it. I had no idea how nice of a camera it was. I was busy looking for some type of 120 film friendly box camera at the time. Oh well.

You can get 'em on eBay for a reasonable price if you want one.

And it takes 35mm film! :o)

This is very cool. You can't have too many dials.
Like it's from the lab of a mad scientist in a 50s b-grade horror flick.

My dad had a C3 that he bought in the late 1950's or maybe 1960....I used it a little many years ago but one of my brother's now has it - I haven't seen it in years. Came across your picture tonight while lazily surfing Flickr....great memories. I didn't appreciate it then.....

I was just given this exact same model. It belonged to a family member, and they know I like photography. I just read that the case is part bakelite. Cool camera, and great shot!

I have one of these that my father had.
I'm in the process of restoring it to it's Like new luster.
Yours is a beautiful example of a new one.
Thanks for sharing so I can get some reference.
