From root lice to sharpshooters, California’s $45 billion wine industry has had it share of insect pests.

Most recently, the speck-sized vine mealybug has taken hold, threatening up to 40,000 acres of grapes. But researchers have found a new tool in the fight against the mealybug -- a friendly, four-legged one with a keen sense of smell.
