Windows 7 Beta *Build 7000*

Windows 7 Beta *Build 7000* by KoRaYeM.
Just finished downloading the beta and I am installing it to a 1.5GB Virtual PC...

------------Updates-------------------------------------------

Wow, well I never thought this screenshot would create such a stir. Seems that windows thing is an interesting topic to everyone.

But I love XP!
Well Windows 7 outperforms both Vista and XP by miles!! In this article "How does Windows 7 compare to XP?" there is a Proof!

My Vista Experience:
I've been on vista for over a year. The first thing I did when I first installed it is downloading SP1 and install it. Vista became very stable and ran very smoothly

I have to add that my laptop has 4GB of RAM which is more than enough for the Vista beast. I also installed the 64-bit edition to make use of my Dual Core processor.

Windows 7:
Most of the people look at OS upgrades as Software Upgrades. The latter is all about new features, better GUI, performance..etc. However the former is about more stability, security..(under the hood stuff).

With Windows 7 it seems that Microsoft is pulling what they've missed in Vista: truly new User Experience and very good performance (compared to Vista)

They redeveloped the very old toolbar thing and call it super bar now

The stupid UAC window (the source of users frustration and negative feedback of Vista) that shows up whenever you want to do system changes is much more intelligent now.

There is a new Paint and Wordpad!! they haven't been touched since god knows when!

Upgrading from Vista to 7:
My only concern is upgrading to Windows 7 license. I would love to see Microsoft appreciate those who DO HAVE vista license and give them a quite good upgrade price.

You know, I've always defended Mr Microsoft. He makes some great software. Well, I might have to change that to he MADE some great software. The latest version of Office is horrible. And, it is not that Vista is bad, it just isn't very good! When you go back to an XP machine, you realise that there are some things which you miss, but it doesn't offer that much which is very exciting and it does some horribly clunky and strange things. Windows 7! We live in hope! I might have to even try a Mac again! Their new laptops do look gorgeous.

If you are still talking to me, there is a new spot the ball contest. Thought you might offer a spot the 'something' competition!

I updated the photo's description with my review and some very good links!

@Marwa: I guess it should be over now...happy installation, you will love it.
@Andrea: I have it a quick test and it seems fine to me. It's much faster and looks slicker.
@Chehab: so you do agree with me that MS is on the right track :)
@Richard: what are you talking about, Office 2007 rocks man, it just needs some time to get used to it, but once you do, you can NEVER look back. I was at a friends PC with Office 2003 and I had trouble working around!! Windows 7 looks very promising man, I guess you can hold that "mac" thought for a while. It'll be worth it I am sure!

I hope so! I hope it is a step forward.

I guess, in truth, I am talking about Word. I use Excel and Powerpoint, and they seem ok. But, even after a year or more, there is hardly a thing in Word which I couldn't have done better and quicker in 2003. This is a big shame, because I used to say that in (I think) '92, version 6 of Word (which developed 100 level undo, and intellisense, and tables became easy and ... it was VERY much miles ahead of anything else) took me by the hand and became a friend. We've had an argument recently!

@Richard: interesting. I consider myself a guru with office apps and to me I really can't look back. If i want to insert "anything" I would go to "insery" tab. In 2003, I had to think first..if it's an table, then I would go to table dropdown list!!?

But back to Windows 7 issue, I can firmly say "so far, so good". The next release is going to be "something" inshallah.

OMG your laptop is very powerful with 4GB RAM. Wow.

As to Win7 I bet that a lot of the software won't work and will need to be updated :-(

lol,, I installed it yesterday too,, but I took the move and upgraded my licensed vista to 7 beta without even testing,, but it worked good and it calibrated all my settings and programs very smoothly,, even complex ones like antivirus, games & such stuff

Anyway....
A good windows to me is a Windows that doesn't do THIS,,,, if THIS never happens,,, then 7 is the best windows ever...

oh btw,, so far except for performance improvements,, windows 7 is still vista to me,, 4get the eye candy cuz it looks like a custom paint job to me,, I think M$ need to do some serious work in here,, customized UAC settings isn't everything,, but I admit I liked the upgrade process from vista,, it was so sleek I didn't even have to write my name :)

I've recently installed Office 2007 Home ed & consider it a major improvement over Office XP from the 1st time I used it (no one else seems to agree though.) I also usually buy MS mice & keyboards.
As for for MS operating systems - I think they all stink - XP which I use is the best of a bad bunch IMO. As for Vista that I've used a little on my girlfriend's laptop - it has twice the amount of RAM that my PC has (1GB) & from what I heard - it needs that 2GB as a minimum. A friend deleted Vista from a laptop & installed XP that ran noticeably faster & booted the same day it was powered up!
I've never really understood what Vista brought to the party apart from a prettier dress & loads of issues with drivers. The SQL based file system got stripped out which was half the original point of Vista that would have allowed very sophisticated searching well in advance of what is available now.
If Apple can design a grown-up OS that will work with less RAM & simpler h/w, why can't MS?
Let's hope that Windows 7 lives up to or better still, exceeds our expectations.
As an aside, I would never recommend upgrading an OS but always do a fresh install from the upgrade version.

@busb: you've nailed it. What was planned to be in vista and got dropped (like winFS, native WPF...etc) is now part of vista. Not only that, they are doing major improvements on what made vista a disaster..so keep your fingers crossed
