Brown Cuckoo-Dove (Macropygia amboinensis)

Wamboin, NSW, Australia.

Finding this bird in our garden was a HUGE surprise to us - it's a species associated with coastal ranges rainforests, especially Queensland, not inland dry highlands of New South Wales where we are! Anyway, having spent the morning high in a eucalypt, we heard a crash of something hitting a window and found the unfortunate bird lying stunned on the ground. I put it in a box, covered the box with a towel and put it in a shady place so that it may recover without hassles from wattlebirds and currawongs. When it did show some signs of recovery, I placed it in a pear tree (the closest thing we have to a leafy green rainforest tree) where it's been sitting for a few hours. Not sure how well it is though, as it doesn't seem at all interested in flying away.
