day 1: arriving in japan

day one of our trip to Japan. Singapore Airlines turned out to be an awesome carrier. free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks the entire way. even in coach. as well as a wide selection of recently released movies that included slumdog millionaire and a hong kong martial arts flick starring donnie yen.

and to top it off, they served ben & jerry's cherry garcia as our in flight snack. how awesome is that?

from here it was a mad dash through customs to meet up with friends near the terminal exit, exchange currency for what we thought was enough yen, activate our rail passes and catch the narita express into tokyo.

by the time we finally got settled into our hotel we had just enough time for a brief nightcap before crashing. tsukiji fish market was on the itinerary the next morning, and it meant being ready to leave at 4 AM.

photo notes: had enough light to use ISO 200 but completely forgot to turn it down after coming off of the plane. taken at the wide end of the nikon 18-200vr. barrel distortion was severe but easily corrected in gimp using the panorama tools plugin.
