Alicia & Liam Blore with Anne Lederman (2018) 05 - Alicia & Liam Blore
11th July (midday) 2018 at the Lemon Tree, Aberdeen.
North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) (free event), www.northatlanticfiddle.com/.
Country: Canada. Style: Métis.
Lineup: Alicia Blore (fiddle/dancer), Liam Blore (g/dancer), Anne Lederman (fiddle).
The Canadan Métis initially developed as the mixed-race descendants of early unions between First Nations people and colonial-era European (particularly in central and western Canada). They are now recognised as one of Canada's aboriginal people. Métis culture includes a form of music and a dance style jigging (usually danced to reels rather than jigs) which combine European and native Canadian elements. This music is rarely seen in the UK. Apart from single tune sets in the course of an evening by musicians like April Verch, my only previous encounter with it was Anne Lederman at the 2006 NAFCo.
Alicia and Liam Blore were born and raised in Toronto with Manitoba Métis roots through their fiddler great-grandfather, Philip Zastre, from St. Rose du Lac, MB. Anne Lederman was born in Winnipeg, MB and lives in Toronto, ON. She discovered Manitoba Métis fiddle music in 1984 and has done a great deal to promote it
