For some reason, having not yet finished my coffee, this first appeared to be a cave full of parchment bats, perhaps messages waiting to fly off somewhere . . . palimpsest is a great word and metaphor, isn't it? But when you say it out loud, people wonder if you've just said something not appropriate for polite company :).

I recently saw an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in NyC that featured Jasper John's arts, called Grey. One of the paintings was all letters, and not really gray.
