Return Of The Pirate

Return Of The Pirate

Klaus (Claas) Störtebeker
At this point this famous German pirate was beheaded in 1401.
Well, after quite some time this statue went from various positions back to this spot in front of the Maritime Museum of Hamburg.

This photo is made of three different exposures with three different whitebalance.
Reason, the sky at night is dirty brown and not very interesting as background.
1. Foreground bottom and Stone 27sec. AutoWB
2. Background water and building 66sec. 4500K
3. Sky 75 sec. 2800K
Manual stitched, slight rework on lights and shadows

Schöne Ferien ~ Great Holidays

Schöne Ferien ~ Great Holidays

I would like to say "Goodby" 'til August.
We are travelling (again) on a cruise with the family but this time two weeks in the Mediterreanien See. Hopefully with fine weather like last year in Norway and Iceland.
Last year 2010 we were able to watch the vulcanic action in Iceland and this time we may see similar in Sicily, Italy.
Bon Yoyage, my dear friends.

Sulphuric Fields - Schwefelfelder # 2

Sulphuric Fields - Schwefelfelder # 2

Found the official name of this area: "Namafjall-Hverir"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Namafjalla is a high-temperature geothermal area with fumaroles and mud pots.
At a depth of 1000m, the temperature is above 200°C. Along with the steam comes fumarole gas, such as hydrogen sulfide which is responsible for the characteristic hot spring smell in these areas. ("...it stinks like hell...") The hot springs produce considerable sulphur deposits. In previous centuries suphur was mined in Iceland to produce gun powder.
Everywhere is unsafe soil and high temperature (80-100°C) It is recommended to only walk on marked trails.

Sulphuric Fields - Schwefelfelder # 1

Iceland is fantastic, a dream for photographers.
Reach the island in the north at Akureyri and drove ~1 hr right into the middle of nowhere. Suddenly arrived at this marvelous landscape.
In the foreground you see hot grey wads of smoke out of the deep holes full of sulphur.
In the background at the hills you see white steam from geothermic activity.

Please feel free to watch much bigger in 2000 x 3000 px: www.flickr.com/photos/kliefi/5102875236/sizes/o/
