Winners! New Life Competition: the Sofa. |
New Life, Student Furniture Design
Competition at the Harrington College
of Design in Chicago
Comments of the jury:
First Place:
Jahaila Sing, The Chloe Sofa
A beautiful blend of sleek sexy lines
that can easily be placed from high end
commercial setting such as a boutique
hotel a lobby etc., to an elegant
residential penthouse. It’s a balance
between classic and ultra contemporary
lines blendes seamlessly, making this
piece quite harmonious at once inviting,
yet also very dramatic.
Second place:
Cindy Rosado, Quetzali
This striking sofa achieves a lovely
blend of the traditional and the
coquette.
Applying curvaceous arms and wood base
creates a fresh, sassy spin on the
classic tufted tight lack sofa.
Sophisticated. Yet cheeky.
Third Place:
Kevin Scott
This sofa is a great combination of a
high design, clean lines, and a dramatic
profile. The extensive use of green
materials and the ability to change the
slipcovers makes this a versatile,
environmentally friendly statement. The
profile is sleek and clean and properly
proportioned.
Honorable mentions (alphabetical):
Agnieszka Eshoo:
Fun modern elements make this design
great in dramatic environments
Jaima Bokany:
interesting tufted, a bit
playful, definitely a sofa you can fall
into, kind of
something Roche Bobois would create
Younho Choi: An Rak sofa.
He was our number 3 select last time.
We will be seeing lots from this
student in the future, this sofa, just
like his a/v cabinet draws from a strong
use of
clean simple lines to create a
beautiful modern classic.
Lauren Di Pietro: the essence of a
John Charles design, very Italian mid
century, contemporary style.
Takuya Imoto: the most outside the box
of all the designs, very high design
more of a art piece.
