Highlights from the 2010 Los Angeles Marathon. All pictures were taken at the 26 mile marker near the finish line. Kenyan Wesley Korir defended his title from 2009, pulling away from fellow countrymen, Richard Limo and Paul Samaoei who battled for second in a very exciting and close finish. Korir was locked in a strategic race that was slower than he expected but still a very fast time of 2:09:19. Korir expects the record to be shattered next year as he says it is a very fast course. Kenya swept the top five spots on the men's side while Ethiopia took 3 of the top 5 spots on the women's side however a record breaking performance by Edna Kiplagat of Kenya was the big story as she broke the women's L.A. Marathon record with a time of 2:25:38. Teyba Naser of Ethiopia finished second while Silvia Skvortsova of Russia finished third, same as last year in L.A.
The new course started at Dodger Stadium and ended up by the Santa Monica Pier which led to a sellout of the 25,000 spots available for runners.
