button tree

I made a few of these, but never finished them, as I couldn't decide how to make them stand up. I put this one into an old cotton reel, but I'm not really sure about it.
Any thoughts, my creative friends?

Wow I really love this idea! Have you thought about getting some of those really mini flower pots? You could fill them with clay, or something else that would weigh it down a bit.

you wouldn't believe how much I like this :)

Another great idea. It reminds me of (but is nothing like) The Singing Ringing Tree. In other words it looks magical. I think the cotton reel suits it.

JenX5 - How wonderful that it reminded you of the Singing Ringing Tree! I love the crazy weirdness of that series!

I'd love to see a whole forest of your trees.
I got the Singing Ringing Tree as soon as it was released on dvd. Think I was highly affected by the thing as a child ;)

a flower pot would be nice, but the spool is perfect!

I love this and I love the spool. Another idea is use a cork as the base. Kind of like this only cuter and without the extra ink: www.flickr.com/photos/49677956@N00/4790357778 /in/set-7215...

    Champagne corks are better.

Thanks everyone - I've kinda got used to the cotton reel now! : )
I like that idea too. I've been working on some other wire sculpture, and tried using a balsa wood base, which seems to work pretty well, but a cork would be brilliant for small pieces.

I love it. I have a ton of vintage buttons that were passed down from grandmothers. I also have some old wooden spools, with thread on them. I think these would be an adorable way to display some of them. And I wouldn't be permanently altering anything, especially the charm. Thank you for sharing!

perfect the way it is; don't change a thing!

how about a rock and start by twisting the wire on first
