Heron Day Bento 1

Edamame with purple sweet potato "violets"...see closeup photo
Frozen trader joe's chile/cheese tamale
Fresh fruit salad with bamboo fork
Red grapes to balance
Blue and purple rainbow rice
Carved from a hard-boiled egg, see more notes on closeup photo
Reeds and grass are uncooked yam soba and green mamenori
halved egg yolk
Cattails of green tea pocky tips. It just killed me to eat the leftover bits, I'll tell you.
Heron Day Bento 1 by Sakurako Kitsa.
This is my bento for Heron Day (that's my own holiday, not unlike Mr. Costanza's Festivus, and it's a long story). I didn't have the stuff to do what I wanted (a great blue heron), but I had plenty of egg so I made a great white heron.

Happy Heron Day!

Drops of food coloring in the rice cooker water. The more food coloring, the more vivid the color. This is neon blue with regular blue and a tiny bit of neon purple.

I ate it. Blue rice is just rice; the food coloring isn't any different from what you find in candies and drinks. It's just a mental hurdle. The egg and veggies are the same as you'd find in many bento lunches.

I'll admit that not a lot of people like uncooked noodles...I do, they're crunchy and salty.

Your creations are so absolutely gorgeous but I would probably cry before every meal as I would hate destroying such masterpieces! lol. I would so love to try one of your bento boxes one day, I may even try to make one myself as you've inspired me. I highly doubt they'll come out looking good, or anything close to yours, but I'm even excited about the taste as I seem to love everything you add in your boxes.
