Coming Down

Coming Down

The last days of this historic bridge are approaching. Today the train section comes down. The cranes are in place and should be complete by the end of the week.

More Gel Effects - Lightroom Beta 4

More Gel Effects - Lightroom Beta 4

I only added a slight colour cast to my secondary light, but in this example it shows how easy it is to change the effect on that specific light source. Just lighting painted the edge and a combination of auto mask and erasing to get the effect perfectly on the areas I want the effect on.

Using Lightroom 4 to create gel effects

Using Lightroom 4 to create gel effects

The new white balance adjustment brush is a nice new feature to Lightroom 4, but something that also came to mind was to use it as a gel effect. By painting the shadowed areas of my model and apply a different colour temperature like using a studio light with a gel. This gives the subject a little more dimension and just by varying the temperature of the lights on the subject.

I'm still experimenting a little with the effect. Going to find some other images to play with this new discovery.

"Normal" Lens Field of View Equivalents of 645 Medium Format

"Normal" Lens Field of View Equivalents of 645 Medium Format

Apparently I'm on an infographic kick. This one hopes to demonstrate and describe a few things.

1. It shows how a "Normal" 80mm F/2.8 and how the crop factors compare across the various crop formats.

2. Demonstrates where digital medium formats crop the image and what equivalencies are necessary to maintain "Normal" equivalency

3. Describes what lens in the crop format is necessary to match the "Normal" lens of a 645 format film camera.

Note: Both the Phase One IQ 180 and the Hasselblad's H4D60 are approximately the same sensor size. Both are called full frame, but are actually 93% (I also did not put into the chart of what an equivalent lens would be, it's close enough). As far as I know, the only true full frame sensor is made by Sinar/Kodak for the Hy6 6x6 system (my dream camera). If you're in the market to buy a MF digital, you might want to reconsider and look at the newly announced Nikon D800. Not only does its MP count rival most entry level medium format crop cameras, but for DoF advantages, it's not really all that different.

FYI: Medium format digital crop factor is the same crop factor as APS-H to 135 format Full Frame.
