April 14, 2007, a former ATSF SD40-2 snoot nose and former BN SD40-2 lead a westbound Z train across the former NP between West Fargo and Mapleton, ND. A year after this photo was taken it would be nearly impossible to find SD40s on BNSF mainline trains.

October 16, 2007. CP's Hankinson Roadswitch is heading down the Veblen Sub and has just crossed the ND/SD border south of LaMars, ND. Originally this branch was the Fairmount and Veblen Railway, which went west from Fairmount, ND, then turned south to Rosholt, then turned west to Veblen, then went south and then back east until terminating in Grenville, SD.

April 9, 2007. Before the Dakota Missouri Valley and Western got around to painting their units there could be some colorful consists like this one pulling uphill west of Lidgerwood, ND. In addition to the former CN GP40-2 there's a DMVW painted GP35 and a former WC SD45 still in maroon and gold.
