Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning

Couldn't resist photographing the front element of Canon's TS-E 17mm f/4L lens after I wiped it clean from dust along with the rest of my lenses. Hopefully they'll stop collecting dust one day and get some regular use :/

Lee-eyri

Lee-eyri

I had the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II mounted with a few graduated Lee Filters attached. The plan was to take a picture with all the bling I could find, ie. with shifting, stitching, blending and filtering, basically everything that can possibly be done to a photo. So my 9-frame-filter-frenzy-photo experiments didn't really work out that day, but this little outtake comprimising of a single little tilt made the cut as the most interesting photo I took that day, to my eyes at least.

The title of the photo is derived from Hvaleyri, which is actually the right name of this beach. But this beach has become famous for it's attraction of Lee-Filtering-fanatics, so I have decided to call it Lee-eyri henceforth.

Gone fishing

Gone fishing

I went with a few friends for some photo-fishing last night, and as the four of us stood there shooting the boat simultaneously, I was worried that we would probably all wind up with the same photo. But fortunately that is rarely the case, as you can see from my friends photos:

The fourth member of our posse hadn't posted his at the time of this writing.

The TS-E 17mm came in handy, as it enabled me taking a low-angle shot without sacrificing sky volume for water, by shifting the lens a little bit upwards. Of course I could have tilted the lens upwards for that same purpose, but then I'd be distorting the photo, and who wants to do that when they've got a tilt-shift lens? :-D

Sólheimajökull

Sólheimajökull

A little and very temporary icecave at the entrance of Sólheimajökull glacier. The glaciers are constantly on the move so this scene might not be there tomorrow, at least not in the same proportions. If you look closely you can see layers of ash / sand in the ice, notice how they're tilted diagonally, but propably they were horizontal when the ash / sand landed on the ice.

This shot is made out of three horizontal sets of 3 exposures each, a total of 9 frames blended into one, wide photo with increased dynamic range. Original photo is close to 10.000 pixels wide.

Aurorae

Aurorae

From lake Thingvellir a few days ago. We went with rather low expectations for auroras but the wonderful weather demanded an attempt, and we sure were rewarded with a spectacular show. Unfortunately there was no snow, no moonlight, so very little brightness to be had for the landscape to be lit up. Camera was pushed to ISO 3200 @ f/4, 30 seconds and still I was few stops away from making anything useful out of this. Fortunately I was able to get a few more stops out in post-processing, and I must admit, I would have been better off with a recent Nikon body in those circumstances. This is a stitched frame from the awesome-not-available-for-Nikon, Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L which I have grown very fond of. PS. The two red dots are not dead pixels but rather alive photographer buddies of mine.
