3989 purple volcanic sunset

Spaceweather.com has been talking about volcanic sunsets recently. Apparently a volcano in Alaska (not Mt. Palin!) is erupting and its ash and other aerosols are giving us purple sunsets.

Earlier, Spaceweather had purple sunset photos from northern Europe, and now it's wrapped around the earth enough times to work its way down to San Diego's latitude.

Mmm, sulfur dioxide. Not just for breakfast any more.
