this is really gorgeous. But yeah, so sad... Goodbye, Duke's Cycle, and that crazy old music store!

I think you really got the event with this shot - the scrappy old pole with the ripped posters, the cracked street scape, the sad, tired body language of the fireman. And the wreckage beyond - you were in the right headspace for this shot.

Kevin Steele  Pro User  says:

Yeah, it’s pretty shocking. My brother and I walked that stretch twice less than twelve hours earlier.

I’m pretty used to watching Queen Street disappear, but not like this. I’m so glad no one was hurt.

Thanks for the kind words about the shot, all. There were so many people taking pictures – and so many great shots from others – but I had little choice but to walk down and take my own.

SmashArts: Thanks so much. I’m not usually a one pic kind of shooter – my photos tell stories cumulatively. This was one of those rare times when one picture was enough for me. I took more but they don’t add much to the many documents of this heartbreaker.

Wow, what a fantastic shot! I'm curious how much post-processing you did. The end result is superb.

Brittney Raine: Yes, it certainly is. She just played here.

pastalvr23: Wow. I'm thrilled it was able to evoke that kind of reaction in someone.

steeleware: With this one I tweaked the curves, probably on a bit of an S, but mostly to boost the lights. This did bring out a bit more volume in the water. The capture was probably a stop or so underexposed. By my standards it was very little post-processing because I probably only spent a minute or so on it, but you can do a lot with the curves tool.

stunning, I love the hosepipe sanking away, it really draws the eye into the photo and the fireman, who has been caught in just the perfect moment, the final part that makes this a truely great shot is the posters on the telegraph pole. Any one of those three things would have made a great shot, but combined they add together to make a really astounding photo.

This is beautiful, Kevin. I'm eating these photos up -- it was so strange to come home from abroad and find that part of my neighbourhood had burned down.
