Yehliu Cape

Yehliu Cape

Yehliu is a cape on the north coast of Taiwan in the town of Wanli between Taipei and Keelung.

The cape, known by geologists as the Yehliu Promontory, forms part of the Taliao Miocene Formation. It stretches approximately 1,700 meters into the ocean and was formed as geological forces pushed Datun Mountain out of the sea.

Gold Waterfall of Jinguashi

Gold Waterfall of Jinguashi

The substantial Jinguashi rainfall seeps into the mine shafts through cracks in the surface rock, becoming acidulous water after interacting with the pyrite and energite underground and undergoing oxidation reduction. A natural wonder “Gold Waterfall” has formed where the terrain drops sharply. This is one of the sources of the Yin-yang Sea.

Taro Balls Stall @ Jiufen, New Taipei City

Taro Balls Stall @ Jiufen, New Taipei City

Jiufen is most notable for their taro balls soup called yuyuan. The taro balls can be made by mixing mashed taro with water and sweet potato flour or potato flour, making the taro balls more springy or softer respectively. The colour of mashed taro makes the dessert appear crystal purple or grey. The mashed taro can be replaced by mashed sweet potato or ground mung bean and becomes the yellow sweet potato ball or the green mung bean ball.

The dessert can be served with syrup either icy or hot. It is also very common to cover some taro balls and sweet potato balls on the other Taiwanese desserts like douhua or baobing.

The Replica Queen's Head

The Replica Queen's Head

Queen’s Head, one of the most famous scenes in Yehliu, is a kind of mushroom rock. It is formed due to the differential erosion caused by seawater during curst movement. When comparing the height of which with the crust’s rising rate, it is assessed that the age of the rock is about 4,000 years old.
