Reaching out to me

Reaching out to me by Kevin Day.
A walk around to the "other side" of the lake gets me closer to the tree, I don't know if the barbed wire fences that I had to negotiate were to keep people or cattle out but as no-one came rushing out telling me to"clear off" I may venture back around there another time

This is fantastic - I like the perspective. I didn't realise it was the shadow from the thumbnail.

A simple idea, and a great result. I don't think I have seen this sort of shot of a tree before, with the sun behind and the shadow coming straight at the viewer...

really nice :)

(i probably would of been picky and ps'd out the tree coming in from the right)

You've got a really nice series of pics here, what date did you take them all on?
Posted 44 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

Kevin Day  Pro User  says:

Again thank you everyone,
The Dent, I agree about taking out those branches on the right. If you mean the date for the tree pictures they have been spread over the past year but all the dates in the EXIF data (more properties) are correct

This photo is challenging Sacred Ground from the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best - www.flickr.com/groups/best100only. Vote me in please!

Whilst I do like the feel of the defenders shot, it is the post processing artefacts in the branches of the trees when viewed at large size that made me choose this shot to be challenged.

Nick Owen's Poetry and Pictures  Pro User  says:

this is a very good challenge and a great opportunity to look at pictures comparing things. For me this is more about ideas and feeling than photographic skills. They are both equal as photos. At first I preferred the defender. It shows so much artistry in lighting that cross and grave. But then I decided that it was too sentimental in its tones. This pic has an element of cruxifiction to it, but it is Pagan. This is Odin hanging on the windy tree, stark and proud.oneof100#__

I believe Trans-itions is number 1? The shadow....the shadow draws me in. Both have great atmosphere, but this is a touch more simplistic. With the trees in the background, almost as if they're a tribe.

This is a beautiful shot that I would have been proud to take myself, but in my mind it doesn't even come close to the defender's which is one of the most stiking and technically fantastic pictures I've seen on Flickr.
