In seeking to learn more about Maya I came across this tutorial. I really enjoyed the tutorial's result but I wanted to try something different in terms of the setting, camera work as well as trying out 'soft' lighting with Mental Ray.

This is just a still frame but I find it helps me to visualize the final product if I do some colour work in PS and can then base the grading and feel of the piece afterwards of off this.

540EZ into canvas at 45 degree angle above. The food is on a canvas with it's original wrapping on that provides some reflections.

I wanted to match the lighting style with the food, being 'lite', so I went with high key.

The best part of this assignment is the end of it.

Update: I got home and took a look at this on a proper display...eek! Colours are weird, and there's quite a purple color cast on the background, please let me know if you see this too, in the meantime I'm going to consider how expensive color calibration setups cost and try to snag one from a friend. :D

540EZ --> Umbrella cam right
580EX --> Through lightsphere for background light (on the first shot). About 1-2 stops less power than the main (540EZ) light.

Money starved students needing a job to buy some more photography gear :)
