Cine Club Pedro IV, Barcelona, Spain

    Newer Older

Located at Carrer d'Alfons el Magnanim, 59 in a district to the north-east of the city centre. The Cine Club Pedro IV in positioned directly outside the Besos Mar Metro station. It was opened on 3rd March 1992 with Melanie Griffith in "Shining Through" and Bruce Willis in "The Last Boy Scout". The twin screen cinema is located at first floor level, with its entrance through a passage beneath the cinemas (under the Pedro IV name in this photograph). Seating was provided for 396 and 354 in the two screens. It was built for and operated by the Balana group and was designed by their favoured architect/interior designer Antoni Bonamusa. It was equipped with the latest projection and sound equipment for its time.

Unfortunately, the neighborhood went down-hill and became dangerous. Balana closed the Cine San Pedro IV in the early 2000's. In now sits empty and abandoned, although I hear there are attempts to improve the neighborhood in recent years.
