Behold, the green tiger of the eel grass! Last year I contacted palustrine about accessible eel grass beds in Tomales Bay where I might find this slug, which specializes in hiding among eel grass, and doesn't live in the rocky outer coast areas I usually visit. He recommended Marshall's Beach in Tomales Bay State Park, but I never ended up going ... until today.
After lugging a 17 lb weight belt, my wet suit, tunic, gloves, booties, mask, snorkel, and camera gear down a trail to what ended up being the wrong beach, I violated the first cardinal rule of wearing a wet suit: NEVER put one on if you think you might have to go to the bathroom. Never. I was later saved be the presence of an outhouse at Marshall's just to the north, BUT, these mistakes meant nothing: I found the slug! In abundance!
I am totally in love with this slug. So green! So stripey! So big! What this baby really needs is some clear water and white background. Next time.
