Yup, in packs of 7. You do pick up stitches - first cast on what's needed then pick up sts to join. I'll connect them by knitting hexagons between the flowers - Knitting Nature outlines a technique where you use both ends of the long tail cast on to pick up sts, alternating tails so that they're both at the right spot to cast on again.

If you follow the Komb pattern you'll never have to do the alternating part because it's created in rows. The flowers are much easier to block as I go - hello, instant gratification!
