Theresa*
It's Official..........
..............this 70-foot blue spruce from McHenry will be the city of Chicago's official Christmas tree this year. The tree was one of three finalists from more than 70 candidates. This tree was submitted by John Colomer. Im assuming he is or was the owner.
Voters made the final decision by picking their favorite. The tree is currently located on a vacant lot (soon to be developed) in McHenry, Illinois at the corner of Pearl and Richmonds streets and will be cut down and transported to Daley Plaza on Friday, November 5th and the lighting ceremony will be at 5pm on November 24.
I think I read that the tree is 75 years old. It's kind of sad its going to be cut down. When I went up there to grab this shot, I thought there would be a lot of people around but I was the only one there. I dont know.................maybe its just me, but I feel like I captured a great shot of something. While it will be so meaningful to so many people in a few weeks, right now it stands so tall and beautiful 54 miles from where it will end up and after that, it will just be a discarded Christmas tree.
I like having a shot of it while it stands in all its glory, the way nature intended.
The church is St Mary Catholic Church and has been there since August 1898. The tree was planted 37 years later in 1935.
