walter and his cat, 1995

this sort of looks like the cat is drooling
it's just the way the tag is hanging
unlimited meow mix all day
walter and his cat, 1995 by keldemean.
I don't know Walter but he worked with my aunt in the kitchen at a nursing home. I had to secretly "borrow" this photo from my aunt's photo album so as not to piss her off because she knew we were laughing about this one night when my cousins Jim and Lee Ann and I were looking through her pictures and having a few drinks.

I think I'm in love with Walter and here's why:
1. He paid a professional photographer (Sears?) to take his picture.
2. He brought his cat either in a car or on the bus to a professional photographer (JC Penney?).
3. He dressed up fancy in his best sweatshirt for the photo shoot.
4. He gave this wallet size photo to at least one person (my aunt).

Now that my aunt has moved I have no idea how I'm going to sneak this picture back into that album. I don't know where she's keeping it. Could be trouble...

If the internet existed when I was in high school I never would have graduated. I, too, would have been looking at pictures like this, laughing for hours, getting sent to the principal's office, being sarcastic, then getting kicked out.

Oh, Tubby and I have our obscenely cutsie pictures here and there, mainly of our post-napping cuddle. In my teen years I used to nap on the floor with her. And by teen years, I mean I'm in my twenties and I still do it when I go home. Mostly in plaid pajamas. The only thing separating Walter and I is the sheer biological luck that I'm not so naturally hilarious looking. At least not as much as Walter.

But seriously, Walter redeems my hope in humanity, he's a sweater-clad gangly latter-day Jesus. There ARE absurdly nice and genuine peeps out there! Forget Church, I'm viewing this picture every Sunday for an hour. He just looks SO happy! He knows something we don't I guess (maybe all you need for happiness is a sweater from grandma and a surly cat?)

I am Ethel to Kelly's Lucy and I do know where he works. In the kitchen of a hospital in Massachuesetts. That's all I'll say. He is actually a very nice guy. Goofy as all get out but, he wouldn't hurt a fly. Maybe a cat but not a fly.

Rest assured, brooke2009, that this is my photograph. I stole it from my aunt fair and square and the original is on my refrigerator.

I stumbled across this photo searching yahoo for something completely different. It stopped me in tracks. After laughing for a moment, I realized and was overcome with...something. Sadness maybe. Walter is pure love, and innocence. Something so sorely missing today. To be that free, and that pure of heart, to love something so much and be so comfortable in it. I vaguely recall something similar from childhood, yet yearn to feel it again. Thank you for this photo. It is amazing.
