Maya Soetoro-Ng and David Chiu

Sen. Barack Obama’s sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, was in the Bay Area from Hawai‘i in mid-June to campaign for her brother. In addition to several house parties, Maya attended an appreciation breakfast organized by Eric Casher for supporters and volunteers in San Francisco. She was introduced by city District Attorney Kamala Harris. She spoke in the afternoon at the East Oakland Youth Development Center before headlining an evening event at Roe Restaurant hosted by AAPIs, South Asians, Latinos and LGBT for Obama. San Francisco Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting, Myrna Melgar, Doug Sabo and Angelica Jongco also spoke during the program.
