one scoop or two?

one scoop or two? by kc kong.
Close up of a well-used icecream scoop. Controlling the reflections from the deliciously sexy surfaces was a challenge. The scoop was placed on a plastic folio cover 8 inches beneath a table with a white underside. Lighting was bounced off that underside surface. Focus was on the apex of the curve at the neck & horizon was positioned so the apex would not disappear into the bg. Maybe I'll do another with deeper dof ... this was at f/6.3 :)

This one I like very much. The contrast and colours are very nice. Plus the framing choice is also very enticing.

not bad, but there is a big hotspot where the light is reflected inside the scoop, and the scoop is lost in the shadow where it is sitting on the blue surface (maybe clamp it and raise it off the surface). I think the light should have been much more diffused even before bouncing off the table to soften everything, then used another light (or white reflector) to add some highlights - maybe highlight the front of the rim all the way around. Maybe, because of the curves, you could even use a light tent to control the reflections - just above, and to the bottom left of, the big hotspot there are some uneven distractions.
