crappy photo, but I rode about 1/4 mile through grass that was up to my handlebars.

THAT is awesome, and made for a great shot despite your proclamation of "crappy".

So, some backstory. I went out on a group ride that STARTED about 15 miles from home. I rode to that group ride, as I do with most places I go when the weather is nice.
Part-way through, in a part of town I'm not familiar with, my wife calls me and needs me to go to the hospital. I take some bizarre roads to get to a trail that I think goes near the hospital.
I find a part of trail that's blocked off that I'm sure will get me where I need to go.
Next thing I know, I'm in a construction zone. There's a gate and barbed-wire fence all along there. No way out.
...well, except for a 1/4 mile of road-bike-blazed trail through that damned tall grass. And yes, it was fun as hell to ride through it!

I hope that hospital trip was for something good!

No, wife's been plagued with medical problems for about a year. It was one of several fruitless stays at the hospital where they couldn't find anything.

Crapper, I was hoping baby coming or she worked there, or some such. Sorry to hear about the fruitless stays. As a nurse, I have commiserated with many people trying to find the root cause of what's ailing them. Sadly, this is why medicine is a "practice", it's not perfect yet.
