wedding blanket

Um, hi, is this your house???
no, mine isn't quite as cute and doesn't have a good wall for blanket photography. this is my neighbor's house :)
I'm so jealous of how close you live to this!
wedding blanket by katrinkles.
it was hard to photograph because of the wind! i made this out of rectangles of felted sweaters that i zig zagged together on my sewing machine. there was a lot of hand sewing involved as well. given to paula and jon on their wedding day. their names and wedding date are embroidered into a corner square.
i had planned to use a satin blanket binding around the outside but that stuff doesn't seem to come in any good colors (seriously, there was even an "i love elvis" binding). i bought red because it was the only one that went at all but it didn't look good once i started sewing it on. my mom suggested folding over the edge of the blanket and hand sewing it down, which worked great. it makes a nice looking edge that is sturdier than if i left it open.
this was a huge project and i owe much thanks to traci for her help with hand sewing at knitting group the other night, my mom for lots of advice and vanessa for her tips, inspiration and her great tutorial

it is gorgeous! I love all the different colors and how they are really pulled together with the grey. I know the cabling was hard to deal with - but it sure looks beautiful mixed in!

well, each color is a different sweater. it's probably five whole sweaters and bits and probably two sweaters worth of pieces of a whole bunch of other ones i've been using for projects. i have a whole copy paper box full of leftover scraps from this project.
