Cinnamon Swirl by mtkatiecakes

Cinnamon Swirl

Homemade raisin cinnamon swirl bread for breakfasts this week. It's yummy fresh, but especially good toasted with a cup of coffee.

Sourdough by mtkatiecakes

Sourdough

I make sourdough almost every week and you know I never get tired of its yummy smell and beautiful looks. I always anticipate slicing into a fresh loaf too, no matter how many times I do it.

Beef & Bean by mtkatiecakes

Beef & Bean

Homemade beef and bean soup (made entirely from items in our pantry - still on the 6-month no grocery challenge):

- Local, grass-fed, hormone-free beef (we purchased a quarter of a cow)
- Homemade beef stock made from soup bones from the above cow
- Dried black beans from our pantry
- Corn frozen from our garden
- Carrots that were homegrown & homecanned
- Onions from our garden
- Local, organic garlic
- Salt, pepper, cumin

The soup was topped with some corn tortilla strips. I had 5 small corn tortillas in the fridge. I sliced them and spritzed them with a bit of olive oil. I baked the strips at 425 degrees for about 8 minutes until crisp. We topped each bowl with a few strips - the crunch made for a lovely texture in the warm, soft soup.

Welcome Gift by mtkatiecakes

Welcome Gift

We have new neighbors. They moved in last weekend but this week was so crazy that we hadn't had a chance to go meet them.

This morning, we finally went over and introduced ourselves and brought along a welcome basket. The basket contained a jar of homemade applesauce and some chocolate sourdough cookies.

Our new neighbors are a wonderfully nice man and his grown son and occasionally two granddaughters. We look forward to getting to know them.
