Not all Smiles

Not all Smiles by KathyAAdams.
This little one is one of our 274children we work with in Nicaragua. We believe education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and have learned success comes when the parents are invested in the child's education. Thus we work with the family as well as the children. $100 a year helps a child attend school and receive medical treatment.
You can make a real difference in a child(ren)'s life . Check us out at : Empowerment International

b&w as raw documentary of the realities of her life thus its selling power to serve her needs, EI's needs.
the colour softens the blow with its beauty and so melts the heart.

Hi Kathy! Been gone a few days. Great image once again. I'll write some thougts on b&w versus colour by mail. Hope all is as well as we hope for, dear friend

B&W looks better in my opinion. You have captured the innocent face of poverty.

I complete agree with ana on this one; the bnw is striking and portrays the intensity of the situation. The color softens the image but it is warm. It is a beautifully composed shot kathy; excellent work

La foto en blanco y negro es más sugerente que la original. La foto dice mucho: estar detrás del alambre; la posición de la niña es como la de alguien que espera, pues se ha quedado sola. La mirada de la niña es impactante.

this is outstanding photography. i often struggle in deciding between black&white and color for portraits. most often i lean towards b&w, and i would do the same here. i think it accentuates the wire, and focuses the viewer's attention to her face...behind the wire. really, really excellent.

The black-and-white emotes the stark downright reality of her impoverished situation, while the color photo brings out the detail of the colorful dirty dress, and increases the intensity of her eyes. I prefer the color shot.
