Buddhist Monks - Burma

Buddhist Monks - Burma by Kathleen Andersen.
On Explore - September 21, 2007.

I never make political comments on Flickr but I'll make an exception today. This photo is in support of the Buddhist monks' protest marches in Rangoon (Yangon) and other parts of Burma this week.

This photo was taken a few months ago at a Buddhist monastery in Rangoon and has nothing to do with this week's protests. However, the monks are now locked in this monastery, and guarded, along with all the other monks in the city.

This photo was linked to various Yahoo! News articles hence the 8,000+ views.

It is also included in the International Transport Workers' Federation's on-line newsletter at www.itfglobal.org/news-online/index.cfm/newsdetail/1584

I am with you, Kathleen. I was there in June/July of this year and very familiar with the issues.

Beautiful photo. I am a little embarrassed to say I don't know about the protests in Rangoon. Where would I find out? ... nothing in our local newspaper but we don't have that good a newspaper.

Many thanks to people who support monks who are leading the peaceful protests and the fellow activists.According to the latest news, about 10 monks got badly injured and at least 6 citizens got shot dead by military soilders. The situation in Burma is getting worse.Burmese military is brutally killing its own Burmese people.I am wandering when would the UN take the serious action over this matter..anyway, i m really thankful to u for supporting us.

all guys you have to support monks because they are very very poor in Myanmar .They eat only one lunch before 12 noon .They live just under a roof no air condition no electric fans and no basic materials like modern life style.
They give their life for Human rights for Myanmar people suppressed by military dictators since 1962.
The monks and burmese people are so patient.
This time they are going to peaceful demonstration for basic human rights.
Dictators killed thousand of people in Myanmar every year because some mountain area media can not reach so soldiers can do every things what they want.
All interesting in burmese update news u can go to
www.dvb.org web site .
Thank you very much for support monks and burmese democracy movement
