oh my goodness, thats adorable! you made
that?! wow, did you have a pattern? i;m wanting to have a max costume but i can't
find a pattern anywhere and i want to make it
myself,
This is hands down the BEST Max costume I
have seen!!
I have been scouring fabric stores and the
internet looking for ways and ideas to make a
Max costume for my son who will be three in
October, he is having a Where the Wild Things
are themed birthday party and Halloween comes
right after!! Anyways!! Please tell me what
you have used for the tail and fur around the
crown!
Dot D- Thanks! I was wondering how people
were clicking to the pic. I found some tumblr
sites that were posting it last week, but I
hadn't seen those blogs.
lindsbee- I tried to get faux fur from the
fabric store I got the rest of the materials
from, but they didn't have any. I ended up
using pieces from a fur coat my mom had in
her sewing room and had been cutting up
already. As for the scepter- I covered a wood dowel
with foil and then covered the foil with
clear tape (but the tape wasn't staying
closed well, so I went over the edge of it
with crazy glue). Then, I painted a smooth
styrofoam ball yellow and made a hole in it
with a sharpened pencil. The silver pieces
around the ball are 2 strips of cardstock
covered in foil (I taped the foil on the
inside of the strips) with a hole punched in
the middle and on each side. Then I lined up
the strips over the ball (with the middle of
the strips on top and the ends at the bottom)
and put the dowel through all of the holes. I
secured it on both ends with crazy glue and
topped it off with a ball of foil. You must post pics when you're done!
Dear Kitjule 1010, Your costume and son are
adorable! My son is 3 and his actual name is
Max, and I ordered your pattern to make him
Max's costume too. Which material did you
use...flannel or velour...white or offwhite?
Please let me know. THANKS! Julia
What a beautiful costume!! I'm actually
putting together one for my son this
halloween as well. I have to say your little
boy even LOOKS like the storybook Max!
jumare729- Sorry, I don't have detailed
instructions, but you can see my post at the
top of the comments explaining how I made it
and what pattern I used for the base of the
costume. Good luck!

Thanks! I didn't have a pattern for the costume as a whole, but I used a pattern for footie pajamas as a base: sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/patterns/sew ingpatterns....
then, added a hood that I sewed the crown, fur, and whiskers to.
For the claws I just sewed 2 triangles together, stuffed them and sewed them shut then sewed them into the seams for the feet and onto the hand pieces.
Here are a couple of links where people are looking for patterns for adult footed pjs- www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?action=view& id=76574

This company makes one in ivory fleece- www.pajamacity.com/Ivory-Snuggle-Fleece-Adult -Footed-Paja...
Good Luck!

i'm interested in buying it, but not if you're not the one making it :) thanks!

This. Is. Amazing. I'm trying to create an adult-sized version of same and this is super helpful! Too bad they don't make footie PJs for grown men.
