See this very slight indentation and raised area? That's the chip.

If you can't see yours, try putting the card in your wallet and sitting on it for a while. Minor stresses to the card seem to make it show up more clearly.

If your card has an RFID chip in it, you can identify where the device is located by holding it up to light. See the indentation and little square area? That's the RFID chip.

Kate -- can you put a note on this photo to show where you're talking about?

Done.

It's a very, very subtle little thing. And pretty hard to photograph! I took 6 different versions of this.

I don't have a card in front of me. I think I'll be able to find it though, from your pictures, if I had one to look at. Thanks.

What's an RFID chip? Do I not want it embedded in my stuff? Is it to protect me or is it tracking me?

Better to look it up and decide how you feel for yourself. RFID has many uses, some good, some bad, some in between.

It's the technology used for tracking inventory in some clothing and book stores, to pay highway tolls without stopping, and (in the case of credit/debit cards) to utilize touchless payment systems. In that case, it puts your banking information out there where anyone, legit or not, can grab it.

If you have epilepsy or are elderly and an RFID embedded bracelet can tell paramedics your health issues when you might not be able to speak for yourself, that's probably a chip you want to keep around. But I don't want one in my bank card or passport.
