The end result of the efforts: the Bacon Duet.

Candied bacon ice cream (recipe from David Lebovitz), garnished with a rasher of bittersweet chocolate-covered bacon.

This was very, very good, if you're into the sweet and salty thing.

    Damn. Found this while exploring the world map of bacon (that is, all geotagged flickr photos tagged with Bacon). This is clearly the most spectacular bacon in the world. I am inspired.
