Sanibel Stoop

Sanibel Stoop

Low tide and a sheller performing the Sanibel Stoop on Sanibel Island. Low tides and early morning bring out the shellers in droves. Some even go out before day light (as the case here) with a light on their head in order to get the shells. You know what they say - the early bird gets the shell :-).

Shelling

Shelling

In this photo you can see the light on the head of the sheller and the net used to reach out and get those shells.

Spotted Crab

Spotted Crab

More sea life from the beaches of Sanibel Island. I don't know what his official name is but he looks spotted to me ;-). Again, this is from our trip to Florida last year - I was in my glory with all the interesting sea life at low tide on the beaches. Every morning I was up at sunrise exploring - the last day was the best with the full moon pulling the tide way out and unveiling all this interesting treasure.

Just looked this up and apparently it is a Leopard Crab. I suppose his spots are rather leopard like :-).

Creature #2

Creature #2

Another shell with a live animal in it - strange... This was taken on Sanibel Island last February when we visited. I was enthralled with the sea life on the beach. Sanibel Island is famous for its sea shell littered beaches. I was surprised to see so many with live animals in them.
