Facing the World Head On![]() ![]() [ Why This Photo: I saw this young woman crossing the road from the 2nd Floor balcony of our office in the EFU Building on the Jail Road in Lahore.
I already had the camera in hand, and saw at once that the traffic light had turned green and that she'd have a hard time crossing the street. The idea was to frame her against the rushing traffic. I took 25 or so frames and decided on this one because it illustrated a thought rather than a moment. Her pose and personality added the finishing touch. I also purposely decided on the frame with the slower traffic, because the guys on the bicycles too illustrate a certain kind of man and mindset against which she is standing proudly. She made a striking figure against the grey of the road and the rest of the things that the photo implies were also part of the thought process while taking the photo. ] June, 2006. Nikon D200. What an amazing image! The best I have seen this year so far. It is pregnant with so many stories. For instance - A high-heeled Pakistani woman confronting the traditional shalwar-kameeze male-domination of her society. Bravo, Jawad! Pakistan Paindabad!
