Arabic Dictionary

I use several Arabic dictionaries on a regular basis, but Hans Wehr is the most basic stand-by for almost everyone doing Arabic. This is my second Hans Wehr, bought after I finished the CASA I program in 2000. CASA killed my first Hans Wehr (which I bought in 1995), and CASA II has finally killed this one. I'm just starting my third Hans Wehr in January 2007, and I'm told that when that one dies, I will know Arabic.

Wait! I'm still on my _first_ H-W. What does that mean?
I have a second one, actually (a hardcover) that I left in California. But I'm still on my first one. Dammit. I _did_ have it rebound twice in Cairo, though. Does that count?

Well, see that's a grey area. I had my first one rebound a couple times too (with you in Sayyida Zeinab of course), but I had bought it used, and the binding didn't seem super great since I had to have it re-done, so I feel like that all cancels out into being just one Hans Wehr. If you bought yours new and had it rebound then I think that counts as two.

I did! I finally taped it up, but now I have my new copy and this one is officially retired. It's so nice not to have to unfold the pages in the upper-right hand corner to read entries up there. The downside is that I had a lot of helpful markings in this copy and have to start over making those.
