Sign of Our Times

Sign of Our Times by Justin Korn.
Week: 6/52
Neighborhood: Financial District
Image Title: Sign of Our Times

Again, I'm struggling to get out and take pictures due to long hours at work. I'm thinking about changing the project up a bit where I won't restrict myself to the same neighborhood 4 weeks straight, however, at this point, I'm sticking with the plan and trying to power through.

This picture was inspired by the struggling times we are going through. Shops are closing all over the place and friends are being laid off. Businesses that are able to make the necessary adjustments will survive and I hope we see improvements soon. If you have been effected in anyway by the economic slump, I wish you the best and hope you can find the positive in these situations.

You can follow everyone’s progress at the Photography Collaboration Project Group or with a search for the tag PCP:MNYN on Flickr.

You can do it! Power through!

Give me a call and we can meet up late at night for some neighborhood shooting, or on a weekend afternoon.

So how many variations of the tonal change did you work through before settling on this one? I don't know about you, but I find straightforward CC much easier than interpretations such as this. I assume there were more frames where the guy was in different parts of the image? Good choice on the position. I like how he weights the right side. Is there one where he is just on the right edge? Nice image!

I think I only did two for this one and the other one is posted HERE in B&W.

For me, I like playing around with the available settings in LightRoom as much as possible. Sometimes I know exactly how I want the picture to look like when I'm done, other times, I have no idea and just start playing around. Those are the times when I usually wast a ton of time. It's best to have a vision, and for this particular image, I knew I wanted a vintage look or straight B&W.

I think in all, I took 5 or 6 different pictures with different people walking by at different points in the pictures. These are the two I liked best.

Thanks for the comments.

Thanks for all the comments! If you see this storefront everyday, we work VERY close to each other. We should meet up for a photo walk sometime...
