If you are a sunset seeker in Southern California late spring and early summer were pretty disappointing, but the last few weeks have been making up for it in a big way. I took this one last week, my plan for the evening was to come home and get to work processing some images from my recent trip to the Eastern Sierras, but the sunset was just too good. I ended up rushing out to get some shots before the color disappeared. I was literally sprinting over the steps of the convention center to get to the harbor where I wanted to shoot. The people working out on the steps were looking at me like I was crazy as I went running past them with a backpack on and my tripod with camera over my shoulder.
I've started playing around with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 again. I processed this image with both Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 and Photomatix. I could not decide which version I liked better, so I just masked the two together in photoshop. I started with a 50% layer mask, then masked in and out the areas I liked from each version.
I hope these colorful sunsets stick around, they've been great to shoot lately, but I'm also getting sick of this heat wave. If the good sunsets are only here because of the heat, I think I'm ready for a break.
