Everything about this moment was gentle and comforting. From the soft light and colors to the relaxed swimming of the fish in the current. The desaturated colors are a part of my otherworldly memory of this place.

Open Up

Open Up

Sometimes the currents are strong enough that Whalesharks simply come to a standstill and let water pour into their mouths, flooding them with enough Bonito eggs to satisfy their enormous appitite. This shark was stationary for an hour while I was able swim around in complete amazement.

Gulp

Whalesharks are filter feeders and at this location they cruise the surface sucking in huge quantities of Bonito eggs. The dark blue water and textured surface are from the downpour of rain above. Often when the rains begin, the Whalesharks sink back into the depths to wait for the calm to return.

Whaleshark Swim

Amy swims side by side with a Whaleshark off of the Mexican island of Isla Mujeres. Every year the sharks come by the hundreds in a blue water aggregation.
